Yes Soil Earth rods as well, especially as STx says, around the feedpoint will help, but if the local
soil is Not good conductivity, will just waste power, in fact somewhere I read, an early BBC station
fault had steam coming out from earthing system, due to soil losses boiling the water
Trouble is, A physically short Antenna, gives it a really Low ohms, so any Soil Resistance in series
wastes more power, than a taller antenna, on the same Earthing system (just a Potential divider effect)
So to reduce Losses, need to Increase antenna ohms, and Reduce series Soil earth Losses...Simples
All Well in theory, but difficult in practice.... Matt needs to Measure DC resistance between some Earth
stakes, Although DC Res. Not the same as AC Res, will give him an Idea, of how good his grounding is
I think somewhere, there are Maps of soil types, for different countries
By using an Umbrella/folded Unipole to get the ohms up, and combination of earth Mat and Soil stakes,
plus Surface Radials to try to reduce the soil losses, along with a Higher Freq. on LW would help
