First TX was probably an AM transmitter. It was a small circuit board with, I think, a couple of GEC transistors on it. Great signal around the house but I had no idea how to modulate it.
First FM was a wireless microphone that I bought from a music shop for about a fiver or so. It used a 2N2219 FET.(I think)
To cut a long story short, I found that increasing the voltage to about 20 V and attaching an aerial that was up the top of a tree in my garden, I could transmit over a mile.
It was all downhill from there 😁
