Funnily enough Mark, my first MW adventure, was also with an old 19 set, that had already been messed with.
Yes, ripped a lot of the receive side to make room for the Mains PSU - that would have been 1968 ish.
It was sadly confiscated by the police & Home office, along with a pretty new reel to reel recorder, which I requested it's return, & was refused - miserable lot. That was "Anglia radio"

That was at the time I met Roger Stafford (or St John) & Dave Caine or Gammon) from Barton Mills & Isleham - who awakened a long interest in watery wireless in me.

Dave still does a bit of radio now on Zack fm in Mildenhall & online. Dave will probably be at the 648 club meeting later this month.
Roger, will sadly not be - as he passed away a year or so ago.
It's interesting to hear how others got started with this crazy & often illegal hobby.

My fondest memory, was of when I started Caroline shortwave in 1980, not long after the loss of the Mi Amigo - the help, once I had started it, that came from many people I had never met.
For those that do not know - this came from various locations in Thetford Forest - plenty of trees to throw a hammer over & pull the aerial wire up! I doubt if it would be possible now, the Forest is full of cyclists & Dog walkers, who do not want to clear up their dogs mess !

Oddly, there was a lot of letters of support, from behind the Iron Curtain in East Germany - as it was then.
