Happy to reply to you and thank you for your comments. In amongst the usual trivia it is suggested the Paul G is not the man you think it is. But if it is the person we both know I would give you the following wisdom.
Those who can, do.
Those who can't, teach.
The rest become consultants.
To the main subject, the audience split between The Album station and Flashback is usually 75% against 25% in favour of the albums. Probably this share could be altered in FB's favour if it had more outlets and more presented programmes but just now, also with being preoccupied with the ship, we are doing what we can do.
As you say, Caroline was only a pop station between 64 to 68 while toward the end while it was playing bad music to get money, the new releases were getting more adventurous.
It reverted to pop again in the mid 80's to chase/replace Laser. The rest of the time it played albums.
In this respect, when we eventually got some AM after maybe 7 years of lobbying and waiting it was licenced to play albums. That rather kills the discussion dead.
This said, it is possibly to massage the rules since surely every album has at least one hit single included.
But if we went to nostalgic pop ( which we are not licenced for ) we would be in a crowded market of many stations doing much the same thing.
OK, I have given you the courtesy of a reply but we both need to remember that nothing posted here ( including by us ) makes the merest difference to anything that happens in the real world but that is not its purpose, only to allow say twelve people to sound off for their own satisfaction.
I would suggest the 99.9 % recurring of the population are not aware that this Forum exists.
PM.
