Smart meters: can they cause RFI
Posted by Stephen Lewis on September 12, 2024, 8:51 am
I am not anti-smart meters, but a strange thing has happened. Until a few weeks ago, I had a SMETS1 smart meter. MF/HF was killed by RFI for all but the strongest stations. Now with a new SMETS2, I can place a portable radio next to the meter box with no substantial RFI from that source. Now, I need to look into other sources of RFI. My solar system uses powerline telemetry at a single frequency of 110 kHz and microinverters. Why would a smart meter cause RFI?
