A friend of mine, his son moved into a different house, His Dad was an electrician, as well as me
and we were dragged in, to sort out a fault with the wiring, When you switched one room light on, other room light went out
Must be a simple wiring fault we thought, then we found, any load like the kettle in the kitchen killed all the lights
To cut a long story short, the lights we switched on were filament bulbs, ones that went out were LED ones...
The actual Fault was, the Underground cable outside in the street had corroded away the neutral return
allowing only a small current, to return to via the soil, (Which is a bad conductor)
The Electric supplier was British Gas (I know, get your sausages from the Post office next)
We sussed out what the problem was, house owner contacted them, to come round and sort it
Chap arrived a few days later, and we said to him "We know what the fault is, It's A Neutral disconnection"
He Replied "I don't know what you mean" Then the classic comment "I am a Smart Meter Installer NOT an Electrician"
What the #### is he doing installing smart meters, knowing b##### all, about electrics !
It seems this Dumbing down is now common, with smart meter installers being on a Six week training course, or less
You have to do something really stupid to make electrics dangerous, but this "expert" is Fitting GAS meters as well
I think this Frank Spencer Clip is about right....
