I was too young to focus on the CVA01 issues but I remember feeling it was a dreadful decision. It left HMS Bristol as a bit of a white elephant as well. Remember John Nott wanting to turn the Navy into an almost completely sub force just before The Falklands war ? At least Healey wasn't going so far.
