I did raise an eyebrow a little but I'd rather it were a Royal rather than someone from the junior service.

Some people do think that the CVs are RAF assets anyway:

RAF personnel are based on HMS QE as part of the reformed 617 Squadron, which is a joint RAF/Fleet Air Arm operation. So the carrier is effectively an RAF operating base. (from a recent MB post on the DT website).
