assault weapons are automatics not semi-auto like the m-16 or the ar-15 (ar stands for armalite not assault rifle). That is my big issue. Another issue I have is I don't think the majority of the issue of mass shootings has to do with gun control or responsible gun ownership. How many of these shooters have health/mental issues and have been on antidepressants/adhd type meds and got more violent or suicidal once on these drugs....nearly every single shooter.
Between the pharmaceutical companies putting out drugs that make the patient worse then what they are being treated for in the first place and with many of the kids or young adults being raised with no repercussions or taught right from wrong or respect for their fellow human beings it is not going to stop. Lets look at fixing all the areas, not just start and assault on the normal "responsible gun owners" in this country.
And I can personally vouch for a couple of the ADHD drugs making the kids worse, had to deal with Concerta, very first drug they used on sierra, after a month I blew my stack and told them find something else it was not working and making her much much worse (would lay on the floor screaming and crying while slammer her head into the floor while coming off the medication in the evenings). I finally had enough and stopped going to the physiatrist and weaned her off all meds in 6th grade and used other alternative methods to deal with her adhd and odd issues. Maybe I was wrong doing it (per grades and such - schools all worked with her and her "learning disability" without demanding she be on the "standard" drugs) but after I did that my somewhat sweet child was 100% back and not the one who could blow up if you looked at her wrong.
