Re: 549 Medium Wave Monaghan Eire (Spirit Radio)

When it comes to the Irish regulator, it seems to me to often be a case of hoping nobody says anything, neither Spirit radio nor the regulator ever announced publicly that the AM 549 transmitter was closing down, Indeed when the licence was advertised and awarded, Medium wave was meant to be the primary platform, with Spirit promising in their original application to have a 150kw transmitter station in the Midlands. Another example is over a decade ago when UTV Ireland was launching, there was a big commotion about the Minister of the day having to sign a statutory declaration that they had public service merit to allow them have permission to broadcast on the dtt platform saorview, but more recently you've had challenge TV and Sky news getting carriage on saorview without ministers signing anything
