Morning DJ's on big commercial stations over here make millions and tens of millions a year to be on the radio (not my cup of tea..)
But as with the recorded music business, people consume more and more entertainment (audio/visual) from over the internet.
On-Demand TV shows over the internet are hugely popular.
Pop Music is a streaming entertainment now.. nobody bothers downloading MP3's anymore.. you just go to YouTube or one of the music streaming platforms..
.. selling vinyl and CD's is a tiny fraction of consumption and same goes for DVD movies.
But.. I think over the air radio can still be fun and cool.. whether it's stations like
Enigma, Albatross or 70's stations like Kaleidoscope, London Underground, The LTIR etc.. (Plus the short wave pirates that still continue to this day) there's a kick to be had for doing it "over the airwaves" using transmitters, antennas and limited coverage..
The hardest thing in the world is to rise above the noise and get anyone to actually listen...
With billions of YouTube Videos, Music tracks, Podcasts, WebSites to go to, things to take away you attention... getting an audience is now the hardest thing in the world...
