Totally agree, Whoever came up with "Content is King" got it spot on.....Think back to Radio Luxembourg 208
It Ran so much power, it virtually jammed itself, fading, audio quality was terrible, but that didn't bother listeners
because the music played, the Content, was what they wanted to hear
Over 25 years ago, I was involved in one of the 'Incremental' AM stations, (KCBC started by Howard Rose, Jay Jackson)
They gave us a poor frequency, and mouse power, and in the evening, you could actually See the antenna,
and Not hear it clearly, after several moans, the owners paid for them to stay in a Hotel over night,
and they said "ooh, you have got a problem" and gave us a better channel....
but then, would not let us run the old channel, with a retune message, from a bit different Location, to stop mixing,
So we had to build a two coil tuned Filter, to enable the 2 channels to run from same site, with a separate antenna
The Circulating current was quite high, so we had a desk fan keeping the filter coils cool
What I Cant understand, is Why Still the obsession with "Protecting" the Big boys from small Low power operations
The Type of Advertising, that they get, is not conflicting with the Big Boys, who would never advertise the Local Chip Shop
and a Community or SSDAB station, would not have Nike or Coca Cola on their ad break, So If it's Not an Advertising threat
comes back to "Their Nicking Our Listeners" mentality....What's Wrong with competition, why is is Rigged for the Big Boys
To apply to Ofcom for a SSDAB multiplex, is to quote Arthur Daley "A Nice Little Earner" (£500)
And the last UK manufacturer of DAB TX Lucoro in York, stopped building them ages ago, Only Euro sources now
And why is it so heavily controlled and restricted, Ofcom nearly want to know, what colour Socks you've got on
