regarding what happened to the 10kW AM transmitter, I recall it being mentioned somewhere on the internet that it was destroyed by a fire towards the end of 1988 before the station closed. It was generator powered, which may have caused the fire??? A lower powered (less than 1kW) backup took over on 702kHz for the short time remaining of the station. Recordings on the DX Archive of final days are of a degraded signal on 702
