You are probably right about the re-sizing. it is nearly always better to reduce the size than to increase the size ut smaller models need fewer supports and it would probably be better to use the slicing tool to remove some of the supports before printing. 1/1250 or 1/1200 minesweepers can be printed in PLM, horizontally without external supports.
