Given the capabilities of both of these types of ships and presumably those of other friendly navies would not the formation of protected convoys be a sensible idea , provided the marine insurance industry agreed?
The belated introduction of convoys in WW I &II was more effective than hunting the perpetrators or the bombing of their bases.
Perhaps a naïve view but I would be interested to hear opinions.
