Getting many people to listen, is of course much harder now - as most people are addicted to playing with their mobile phones & will stream the music they like.
In my young day, it was pretty easy to be a MW pirate - with plenty of listeners fed up with the BBC's constant talk talk, listeners would tune around for music they liked.
That situation has totally changed - more the pity I feel.
It's a pity, OFCOM has not encouraged smaller stations to use a mostly empty MW, & keep Radio Caroline company on there - but now, MW has it's technical limitations, mainly it's only of real use mobile in a car - homes these days, are so full of chopper power supplies that create hash all over MW.
Of course, less cars are now fitted with MW radios & EV's I understand, create lots of MW interference - though I've not noticed it from other EV's myself - only a bit from freezer trucks, their converters from DC to AC for the fridges, no doubt.
So if your looking for a way to bend the law, Pirate radio is not a very productive one in 2026 in my view!
