I am hopelessly in love with music, but know enough about radio to know that music stations are unlikely to attract big audiences. Most radio professionals believe that SPEECH is vital for success. Not just mindless and moronic "that was, this is"; you can get machines to do that much better. But real people, interacting with listeners.
People like Spotify assemble playlists far better which are individually focused on listeners;' likes. It takes very special stations, such as Radio Caroline, to curate and put out listenable music streams.
There are many components needed to make a radio station a success; omit any single one and it's likely to adversely affect the station becoming successful. (By which I mean popular, financially viable and sustainable). Leaving out the human touch, i.e. personality and knowledge, is a recipe for disaster.
