Looked further into ABC's timeline and agree, they were clear of 729 khz by late 1982. RTE was definitely on this frequency by late 1983 but difficult to find an exact start date, though plenty of references to it being allocated as early as 1970 ??

From Paul's updates, it certainly looks like 729 / 730 was planned for Laser but a rethink forced due to a lack of clear channels. Seems strange when listening across MW today, but we are talking about 40 plus years ago. 😐

Finally Nova's jaunt around the AM band was followed with interest from the old home location of Derby. Best reception by miles was when they used 50kw on 738 in 1984, but also very good on either 819 or 891 .. not sure which but distinctly remember "The Mighty 890" jingle, which I suppose could have worked for both.
