It seems to have missed notice but the ‘new’ Airfix ‘Sink the Bismarck’ boxed set is now in the shops.
As expected it contains the original seven Airfix 1/1200 models individually bagged, in grey plastic and with an extra bag of eight tinlets of paint (+ 2 brushes) and two tubes of adhesive.
Although the accuracy of some of the models may be questioned the set does provide an introduction to 1/1200 modelling and the individual models provide a host of useable spare parts.
As well as ‘spares’ there are a number of conversion possibilities for the individual ships – ‘Suffolk’ to ‘Cumberland’, as in the mid-fifties, or ‘Prinz Eugen’ as the USN’s ‘IX300’ spring to mind and I’m sure other options are available (not least various versions of ‘Hood’ or a conversion of ‘Hood’ to ‘Renown’).
My original stock is very much reduced but will be at Liverpool in two weeks time.
