Re: HMS Plover camouflage
I have read crititical "reviews" of Wright's books on "social media" but they were all non-specific except that Volume 1 did not show patterns for both sides of the ships. There must have been some other comments sent to the publishers because a revised set of colour swatches was added to one of the later volumes. I believe that the camouflage patterns are largely correct and so you could camouflage your model according to Wright's pattern for 1941. So what about the colours? My uncle was a signalman in the Royal Navy from 1941-45 and had been tested for colour vision before training. When I asked him about camouflage colours on RN ships he said there were no colours, they were all shades of grey! So if you are going to paint HMS Plover in grey, use 507C overall including the weathered decks. You could paint the foredeck in 507A if you want a contrasting shade for a heavy wear area. If you want to try out the 1941 pattern use 507A for the darkest patches and 507B for the lighter patch near the stern. I would use Dulux Light Steel 2 for the 507C, Night Jewels 3 for the 507B and Night Jewels 2 for 507A but Humbrol 64, Humbrol 27 and Humbrol 67 will give the required contrast. If you want two models for the price of one, leave the side of the ship not drawn in Wright's book in plain light grey...
