I too can remember hearing that test with non stop Beatles tracks on the Saturday afternoon. It was easily the strongest offshore MW daytime signal ever heard at my then home location in the suburbs of Derby. I know it was a good time of year for MF propagation but the way the signal remained at a constant, solid strength as the evening drew on, was pretty amazing .. no fading due to skywave interaction etc. Receiver was nothing special, just an 80's Sanyo "Boom Box", but it's large speakers reproduced a good quality sound.
