Ships Captain insisted someone go out on deck, to check no birds near the feedpoint insulator
as they found only a few feathers left, after this happened
The Tuning box's were first made of wood, they tried just Two box's, but it gave an Elliptical directional effect
so they went for the 4 boxes, and made them out of metal, they were quite large, about the size of a house door
Must have been tricky to tune the four vacuums in the different box's, whether they were stagger tuned to help bandwidth?
The feedpoint Box had a loading coil in it, then out to the stand off arms up the mast
A clever idea, Its Logical if you think about it, as 70% of the output from a full quarter wave, comes from the lower
high current section, so folding the top bit over, as in a folded unipole makes sense, but the clever bit is
to bring it to resonance, the actual capacitive loading, added on the lower ends of the fold wires
Each of the boxes had a inductor, as well as the Vacuum cap, not sure which was adjustable, coil or cap
