Catholicism or Freemasonry ? Ongoing concerns over Pope's UAE statements

Pope Francis’s statement in Abu Dhabi on religious pluralism being “willed by God” — and his call to Christians and Muslims to enter the “ark of fraternity” — seem not only to “overturn the doctrine of the Gospel” but also to align with the ideas of Freemasonry, a respected Italian historian has said.

In comments to LifeSite (see full text in article), Professor Roberto de Mattei, Founder and President of the Rome-based Lepanto Foundation, also said the Pope’s recent statements appear to be in discontinuity with the Fourth Lateran Council and with magisterial teaching from Pope Gregory XVI to Pope Pius XI. The Pope came under fire on Monday for signing the “Document on Human Fraternity for World Peace and Living Together,” with Ahmad el-Tayeb, Grand Imam of Egypt’s al-Azhar Mosque, during an interreligious meeting in Abu Dhabi.

The Feb. 4 joint statement incited controversy among Christians for asserting that “the pluralism and the diversity of religions” are “willed by God in His wisdom, through which He created human beings” — a claim many believe to be contrary to the Catholic faith.
Earlier the same day, the Pope also made what some regard as equally problematic remarks to the Muslim Council of Elders, but the statements garnered less attention.

Commenting on the Genesis flood narrative and Noah’s Ark, the Pope told Muslim leaders:

“According to the biblical account, in order to preserve humanity from destruction, God asked Noah to enter the ark along with his family. We too in the name of God, in order to safeguard peace, need to enter together as one family into an ark which can sail the stormy seas of the world: the ark of fraternity.”

“Fraternity” has in fact become the new buzzword for the current pontificate. In his Urbi et Orbi address on Christmas Day, Pope Francis said his wish for a happy Christmas was a “wish for fraternity.” Freemasons in Europe praised the Pope’s message, saying it demonstrates “the Church’s current departure” from its condemnation of Freemasonry.

The new year then opened with the editor-in-chief of the Osservatore Romano, Andrea Monda, announcing that “fraternity” is the “word of hope” for 2019. “Fraternity” and “humanism” has also featured prominently in recent Vatican statements, most notably in the Pope’s letter to the Pontifical Academy for Life.

In light of recent events, LifeSite asked Prof. de Mattei for his thoughts on the Pope’s statements in Abu Dhabi, the current pontificate’s emphasis on “fraternity,” and this term’s meaning within Freemasonry. According to de Mattei, when “fraternity” is divorced from Christian charity, “far from constituting an element of cohesion in society,” it “becomes the source of its disintegration.” He argues that “if men, in the name of fraternity, are forced to live together without an end that gives meaning to their sense of belonging, the ‘ark’ becomes a prison.”

The Catholic historian also reminds readers that “Freemasonry continues to be condemned by the Church, even if the men of the Church, at the highest levels, seem to embrace its ideas.”

Oh, he’s a bad man, that Roberto de Mattei. Now, it might ordinarily be regarded as argumentum ad hominem to say he is a bad man and therefore one should treat his arguments and assertions with contempt, but that doesn’t apply in this case. Hell, no! You see, he isn’t from the Left. That’s what makes the difference.

I mean, everyone knows we’re just smart monkeys – just look at some of the people around you. And, of course, not being from the Left, he just doesn’t get political correctness – I mean, you can’t have people going around telling the truth about various issues for fear of pricking consciences and making some people feel uncomfortable.

And, worst of all, he still believes that the Church didn’t start at Vatican II, but has been in existence for two millennia, during which time it assembled a highly cohesive body of doctrine based firmly on Scripture and Tradition. More enlightened folk understand that all that old stuff had to be discarded if we were ever to enter a period of compliance with the world.

Oh, he’s a bad man, that Roberto de Mattei; let’s not give credence to anything he says. He’s bad, bad, bad!

Opinions are always a matter of opinion when they are the result of ones opinion masquerading as truth.

Whether an opinion can be held as a truth is a matter governed by ones opinion. Opinion reflects the understandings of the one offering an opinion; never the thought that an opinion is merely an interpretation of ones perceptions influenced by ones willingness to believe that opinion, and fact are compatible in the mind of those seeking to affirm their beliefs through wishful thinking.

It is a wise person who understands that the fewer the facts the stronger, and more determined is the opinion that presumes to know.

Your wise person sounds more like a rationalist/secularist/pluralist/relativist than a person of CATHOLIC FAITH.

Journalists have a well established habit of persuading their reading audiences that their opinions are the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth so help me, God. Even retired journalists have difficulty resisting the temptation to believe that their opinions are driven by divine inspiration.

That's a life expanding dilemma for each and every human person must spend a life time discovering who we are becoming. Then we die.

Puzzling as it appeared my child hood Christmas jig saw puzzles ensured that I appreciated the value of every piece that I had to slot into place to reveal the finished picture.

In other words every opinion contributes something of value to us building a picture, thereby enabling the puzzled observer to learn that every opinion matters. When that Eureka moment eventually arrives we learn the importance of patiently hearing out the views of everyone.

It has been said often that the student who knows they know nothing, is the one who learns that they have much to learn, worth learning.

Pre-conceived ideologies restrain, and restrict the student into believing that their opinions, and only their opinions are worth hearing.

Pre-conceived ideology is that easy willingness to perceive matters through the lens of our free choice to believe that our interpretation of what we experience, of what we see becomes our truth, our understanding of reality; an immovable belief fixed in time, for all time.

Accepting that each of us is an explorer on a road towards self discovery teaches the pathfinder that seeking to better know who we are becoming should entail embracing the conviction that we don't know it all, and that our life's journey broadens our perspective by relinquishing any thought that today's experiences are adequate to carry us into what ever tomorrow presents to us, thereby learning that the way ahead will present us with more lessons, worth learning to make our future worth living to die for.

Here I am inviting the traveller to embrace the call of Divine Wisdom to better engage with His request to let Him become our teacher that we may celebrate each and every day all that life has on offer.

If your "Divine Wisdom" happens to be Christ then the GOOD NEWS is Catholics believe He's doing a whole lot of TEACHING through His Church...
