Well, Faz, I support Mr. Folau's human right to voice opinions that I personally find distasteful, and contrary to the call of The Saviour to love our neighbour, as we would expect to be loved. To not support Mr. Folau's right to express his opinions would place me in the position of one who does not support free speech, except when that opinion concurs with my own.
As we have discovered on this blog, and others over the years there are variations in understanding on any given matter, leading me to learn much from those who offer opinions that are contrary to my own. I have even been known to change my understandings the result of being persuaded that an alternative view makes good sense.
To assume that I am the oracle of all truth is to ignore how God works, often through people from whom we least expect to be persuaded by the argument they are providing.
I believe that it is important for the good health of a democratic society that all opinions should be heard, even those notions that are driven by an ignorant understanding of what it is to be different from the majority. On the matter of same sex attraction there may well be yet undisclosed matters waiting in the pipeline to emerge given time and exploration by those interested in understanding the reasons for Mr. Folau's forthright public statements on same sex attraction.
The legal argument that you are providing, makes good sense to me. However life teaches us that for every lawyer there is a different, and differing legal opinion.
