In writing of Pharisees in later a post, Alex, you seem to forget the arch Pharisee in Luke 18:11, viz.:The Pharisee, standing by himself, prayed thus: Lord, I thank you that I am not like other men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector.
Matthew 7:5 is not enjoining us not to help others avoid, or repent, sin. It is simply telling us to ensure that, at the same time, we do have regard to our own failings. Folau is not claiming that he is sinless, but in quoting time-honoured Christian teaching, he is attempting to help others avoid the pain of hell by repenting their sins.
Implying that you wouldn't upset people the way Folau is claimed to have done because you are too nice is simply non—virtuous virtue-signalling, no matter how many contrived spins you put on various passages of Scripture.
