I have been in contact with Jörg Fockele who is currently in the midst of production on a documentary about Mel Odom; his life, his art and of course Gene.

From the website: EYES OF MEL ODOM is a short documentary about award-winning artist Mel Odom, whose pioneering career stands as testament to the ways trailblazing creativity can transform loss and despair into hope and joy.

Jörg has been working on this with Mel & Charlie and he is very enthusiastic about the project. A Kickstarter has been started to help fund the film and, with less than two weeks to go, they still need contributors. Please consider helping if you can.

Hello beautiful Mel Odom and Gene Marshall fans, this is Jörg, the co-director of EYES OF MEL ODOM, the film Michael was posting about. First of all thank you for sharing our info here and for the first pledges that have already come in on our Kickstarter page. Our entire producing and directing team is doing this as a labor of love, we're not paying ourselves, so all the $$$ we manage to collect will go directly into hiring a camera crew, an editor and paying for motion graphics, archival material, etc.
If you haven't done so, please do click our link and check out the trailer on the Kickstarter page - it will show you the look and feel of our film. And please know that Mel himself has donated limited edition, numbered and signed prints of some of his most iconic drawings, including the original Gene Marshall. (See below.) Those prints will be mailed to folks who donate at a certain level.
Thank you for your support and we hope to be able to invite you see our film some time in early 2026.
