Storycard:

Upstage was a 1950 film drama directed by Ivy Jordan, written by Jane Champion and starring Gene Marshall, Madra Lord and Trent Osborne. The screenplay is loosely based on the life events of silent screen stars Mary Pickford, Lillian Gish, and Colleen Moore. Marshall portrays actress Clara Laine, Who learns the craft of acting after a rich friend encourages famous director Klaus Shulsoen to take her on for a six month contract. Laine becomes one of the studio’s biggest stars, but a tragic accident cuts her acting career short. She turns to the work of production and directing, and becomes one of the most powerful women in Hollywood and one of the driving forces behind the establishment of the The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

Thanks for asking! Here are the maker notes for the photo:

Doll: Bald AD Gene head on reshaped Joe Tai body, glass eye repaint by me and wig is a restyled/cut Joe Tai faux mohair.

Dress: Designed and made by me. It was leftover 4 way stretch fabric where the shape of the piece definitely drove the design - thankfully in a good way! I bought the fabric during a side trip to a fabric store during the Lexington Gene Convention. Still wish I'd bought more!

Purse: Made by me with two vintage buttons and jewelry findings to make the catch and the handle.

Jewelry: The chain and pearls were from the collection of Wayne Nilson, the plain chain was from Hobby Lobby.

Shoes: Kingstate black "velvet"

Gloves: Unknown, but likely AD stock

Props: Frame is from Sam Flax's "clearance" area and lace is from my collection from who knows where...lol!
