I used to have a terrible time throwing things away...everything had a memory attached...I am getting much better at getting rid of things as I get older... I have gotten some of my grails through estate sales...and yes, I attach the memory of the person if I had met them or at least heard/read a great deal about them...it is sad, but natural, that we older collectors are passing on, leaving behind a lifetime of dolls for the next generations...but at least the art and the memories get passed along...I have already had many talks with Eric about what to do with my collection when I eventually pass...I do want everything to pass to other collectors who will love the items as I do...and they can pass them along to future collectors as well...I mean, these dolls ARE great art treasures! On a side note, our power went out this morning, so I went down to the basement to do something I had not yet done, using the light coming through the window...my baby sister passed a little over a year ago...she was an artist...I had given her some Gene dolls with clothing to get her started in the doll repaint business...I know she sold several commissions before she could no longer do them...I was visiting my mom and niece last weekend...my niece gave me LOTS of doll boxes (pretty much all Tonner boxes) with dolls inside...so, while the power was out, I took out all of those boxes to see what was inside...inside were lots of repaints my sister had either started or finished...she also made much of the clothing pieces...she was into fantasy art as well as some video games, so the dolls are of that type...not my thing, but I will cherish them as beautiful memories of my beloved baby sister... Dennis in IN OH...and if you are on FaceBook, I have a page of photos of my HUGE doll collection...besides newer dolls as they arrive, I am slowly getting through my older stuff from the 80's and 90's...getting rid of the boxes and enjoying the dolls! I will add an album for my sister's dolls/repaints once I get them photographed...look for Dennis's Dolls on FB and request to join...
