Brown spots on cloth can be removed fairly easily depending on the cause >> Archived Message

Here in Florida we have what is commonly referred to as Florida Rust. Everything gets brownish spots if it sits too long without proper ventilation or humidity control. Also we have a big problem with whites turning yellow. I live in St. Petersburg which is surrounded by water on 3 sides so we have high humidity most of the year. I also don't have air conditioning in my home. My rather large fabric stash suffers as a result. I have to rewash all fabrics before I sew anything. I use the Barbie collector's advice that says to make a strong solution of Tide powder and water and let soak for 2-3 days agitating with your fingers 2 or 3 times a day. Rinse well and the color should be back to normal. On stubborn spots I might have to use a Hydrogen peroxide solution.
