guyed mast systems would know, it's a difficult enough job to do on Land, on top of a building,
let alone at sea, The Guyed Lattice masts not so bad, as you just climb up it, but the worst are...
The Guyed Poles, where after the first section is upright and guyed, you have a Length of Scaffold tube
with basically Bolts sticking out, to climb up like a ladder...This has Norstal clamps on it
for fixing it onto the main erected pole.... It's a weird experience actually climbing up one...
Say, with a Ladder, you have something in front of you, but with a guyed pole, you have nothing round you
must be similar feeling to Hang gliding or Parachute jumping... not for me thanks!
So the Huge amount of effort, putting up a Guyed structure on the Forts, would have been a long slow job,
as each section was lifted up, with its Guy wires attached ready, you would have needed
to go, to all the other forts, one at a time, to anchor and adjust the guying, so that each section was upright
Really needs someone Involved at the time, or an expert on forts, but I seem to remember,
long ago, it was mentioned that the forts actually moved about a bit, in bad weather ??
As they were only Sitting on the seabed, on like a sledge, not actually fixed down
And of course the Very top set of guys, were used as capacitance hat, to Lengthen the pole height
Does anyone know about the "Hanging down".Counterpoise wires, that were used on one of the forts
to provide a better return current path for antenna to work against,
Perhaps this was the secret, to the Huge signal it gave, reducing Loss, max vertical length
So what should this be called ? Umbrella top loaded dipole??.. suggestions?
