If you are talking about Ireland you may be right about that site. A Caroline person visited with a view to maybe buying some goods from there. I was more enthused by the fact that, rather like Orford, here was a nearly complete transmitting facility, privately owned. We would have needed broadcast licence. We have Ofcom and I think that Ireland has ComReg. It was suggested that we start with Temporary licence to prove demand but the application form ran to 24 pages. Looking at these there were endless requirements clashing with our wish just to relay our main output. These were, just as examples, how much programming would be in Irish, how much Irish music would we play. How would we include news and current affairs relevant to the area and give access to individual locals and community groups. It was clear that to comply we would end up with a totally different stand alone station. I still have the application forms here but see no merit in completing them. So for the moment we have shelved this.
As to your other question I have a gas barbecue in my back garden and Brandon is a long way away. But mostly I deal with, manage and talk about Caroline related stuff all day. I don't want to extend it in to my leisure time also. If I drove a bus all day, I would not drive 80 miles to talk about buses. I am told these are good events organised by Barry and enough Caroline people will be there that I will not be missed.
In closing, I do have a long term medical problem where I can only consume food slowly and with great caution. I can cope with it. But if I took a decent mouthful of burger and choked to death it would take the fun out of the evening, especially for me ! I wish all attendees an enjoyable evening.
PM.
