Hope ship is in a sheltered location, without lots of wind
What do you see STx ? looks like usual huge loading coil, will have lots of reactive volts high up
If it sways about in the wind, proximity to the lantern roof could detune it
Thing is, with Any antenna, Most (70%) of the output, comes from the higher current section
With a very small antenna, you can have More Current inside the ATU Coil, than Anywhere on the antenna
Years ago, I spoke to a chap who worked on Navy ships, he said they first had, huge Metal ATU boxs on deck
but replaced them with Fibreglass ones, so the huge loading coil inside it, could radiate itself
If you look at Small antennas like on the LV18, you tend to think the "Bit of the antenna thats missing"
is ABOVE the top of it, but its actually the bit BELOW thats coiled up in the ATU effectively thats missing
Think of a Car radio antenna, only a couple of feet long, same again, the Missing section is Not above the car
but Inside the car radio's ATU, in fact some sets had a trimmer to bring the first coil to resonance
with the antenna connected directly to the top of the first coil, using Low Capacitance coax, with inner wire
thin like fuse wire to keep the capacitance down
You cant get a quart out of a pint pot, or in this case, you cant get a barrel out of a pint pot
