I always felt sorry for Simon, He had the mother of all comebacks in the late 1980s getting to host sounds of the 60s on Radio 2 but apparently fell out with the BBC for refusing to extend the show to 2 hours, but then a year or so later, they went and extended it to two hours for Brian Matthew, Obviously back In the early 00s, there wasn't anything like the plethora of national/semi national stations that we have today, so MM279 would have been the ideal place for someone looking for another big gig, had it got on air .
