The North weekends I enjoy but as has been said I'm not sure where it fits. It's not Caroline 558, but it's not really a tribute to Caroline North either. But it does give everyone a chance to be together and get a spirit of being on a ship.
The comment of Caroline 558 was just an opinion. The problem is 80s Caroline tried at first to continue the feel of 70s Caroline but didn't quite find it. The Caroline evening service of 79/80 was some of the most enjoyable radio I have heard, there was a homely, friendly feel to it and the music was great.
Once Laser left it made sense not to lose the Laser audience, but have that slight Caroline freedom. Again I liked Peter Phillips format. But what the guys proved this weekend is that the free form format can work and feel it was more akin to what I hear Caroline was like under Tom Lodge for a short while.
Trust your staff and you'll get good radio. Playing slightly different music I find Sunshine Radio Online a good listen as I did UDJ. The problem is that it's hard to sell this type of radio to the advertiser.
