Re: London MW pirate 819kHz - The Edge - 10W VMOS FET - Walthamstow tower block - quarter wave aerial
What a coincidence! During that same period, from Surbiton (Upper Brighton Road, not far from a couple of major 1980s Caroline Jocks I much later discovered) I put out an every-Sunday lunchtime (+ various odd hours) rock station (Radio Vesuvius) via my own VMOS transmitter on the anagram frequency of 981 kHz (306m) during that period (avoiding 963 kHz as there were too many warbly VFO stations on there - mine was also VFO but not warbly). Probably only 2 or 3 watts, never measured it, but enough to draw sparks. Audio compression and ducking via DIY single transistor in cardboard box. Very high and clean modulation (from a phasing technique, though not ampliphase), latter so as not to interfere with nearby BBC Radio Four. Condenser mic and single SP25 record deck into Sony 4000DS tape recorder serving as both a mixer and an auxiliary audio source for tape-recorded tracks/segues and jingles barely long enough to safely flip between records on the SP25. All from an old house next to the railway line - that was a bit like "The Young Ones" TV comedy - all sorts and occasional chaos!
