About 20 years ago, I remarked on-line that the Airfix 1/1200 ship kits were derived from the Airfix 1/600 kits. I had built some of the 1/600 kits as a young teenager in 1959-60 and some 1/1200 kits in 1979 for my young son. The same faults had carried over from 1/600 to 1/1200 for HMS Hood and HMS Cossack. About 15 years ago, I learned that one kit had not derived from the other but that both scales had been made from common patterns that had been created in 1/5XX scale. A pantograph had been used to instuct a milling machine to cut the metal injection moulds. In the case of the 1/1200 models, the Prinz Eugen has an inscription engraved inside the hull dated 1976. Prinz Eugen had not been available for me to make in the 1960s, so it was probably the newest 1/600 model when the 1/1200 Sink the Bismarck series was created in the late 1970s. The KGV 1/600 did not appear until later on and nothing newer than Prinz Eugen was ever produced in 1/1200. Almost certainly, Airfix decided that 1/1200 kits were not good business during the 1980-2010.
So here is a list of 1/600 warships modelled as kits by Airfix. This list appears to have been cobbled together on an unnoficial forum and I have added to their list from my own knowledge. I have split the listings to separate old and modern warships and civilian ships:

Civilian Ships:
Southern Cross (1959) very rare.
Titanic
France
Canberra
Norway
Queen Mary II
Mauretania
Queen Elizabeth
Free Enterprise

Modern Warships:
Daring
Leander
Amazon
Rommel
Tiger
Fearless
Moskva
Forrestal

Older Warships:
Cossack
Hotspur
Campbeltown
Narvik-class
Manxman
Suffolk
Devonshire
Ajax
Bismarck
Nelson
Hood
Victorious
Ark Royal
Graf Spee
Tirpitz
Belfast
King George V
Repulse
Iron Duke
Warspite
Scharnhorst
Prinz Eugen

Some on this list I have never seen. They may be from other makers. Can anyone suggest additions or deletions?

In my view, if Airfix could make six of these in 1/1200 forty years ago, they could do it again and all of these could be of the better standard!
