Derivation of the term 'hicopleter'

Back in the late 1960s one of the most tedious tasks given to a junior RAF officer was to insert an amendment to an Air Publication after which you signed the copy concerned as having completed it. This could include a simple hand-written change in accordance with the instructions given. So I came across such an instruction in "delete 'hecilopter' insert 'hicopleter'". Having consulted my Boss I was told to complete the amendment as instructed. Perhaps the next amendment would be "delete 'hicopleter' insert 'helilopter'". Happy days!
