I suggest looking up ships such as the LSI on the internet to find the draught of the ships as designed. For instance, the C!-derived LS(I)s were more shallow draughted than the freighters but they were longer and wider. Then you cancut the draught off the bottom of the hull with a razor saw measuring from the keel and sand the waterline flat. If you cannot find the draught, then a quarter of an inch off the bottom will be sufficient. Information about warships draught is available in standard reference works.
