I think you'll still find the collecting box in the loco shed but even in the 'early days' there was often a group of 'rich businessmen from the Midlands' in the background.
I can think of a number of successful 1:1 scale ship preservations: 'Waverley', 'VIC 32', 'Excelsior' (LT472), and the Fifie 'Reaper' (FR 958) and not forgetting the 'Shieldhall. I'm sure there are others.
Visitors to the TR are always welcome - after all, one of our locos did work on the RAF Calshot railway until the 1940s.
