Within the MOD every item has a recognition number and these were no exception. As technology moved on these models were no longer required and in the early 60s could be found for sale in Government Surplus Stores.
Whilst working in Gibraltar in the early 70s i had access to Naval Stores books and found these models listed so i put in a request for all items approximately 120 items and about 10 actually turned up all being Russian Vessels. Unfortunately i had to return them.
With the Navy giving up these models as a training aid the RAF took over and produced a range of models, these being produced in a material similar to plastic. Mostly Russian and RN Models about 60 i have seen listed of which i have a few subs and HMS Blake post Hanger fit.
If i can help with more info please contact me at dreadnought9@hotmail.co.uk
I may have a couple of Post War RN Naval Recognition models still in there original boxes and i also have a number of Basset Lowke WWII Black Label 1/600 Scale Merchant Models for sale.
