viral particles from their hair. (these particles may not last long, but when fresh they are dangerous). Same with leash/collar etc if recently handled. and going in to get the dog could expose you to airborne particles in their house.
So Scary!!!! especially with the newer mutations that spread more easily.
I no longer pet any dogs on my walks
