diagnosed with NSCLC they run the gamete of tests and last year prior to his lobectomy they saw a lesion/some activity in the brain. Very small (2.6mm. After his chemo and another round of tests/scans the lesion was not apparent. Both the surgeon and oncologist stated they did not believe it was cancer. Bill's most recent MRI shows the lesion has enlarged to 4.4mm. Again the oncologist doesn't believe it is cancer but in lieu of this lung cancer it is a concern. We scheduled a consultation with the Radiation Oncologist and he stated that because Bill had lung cancer last year we should assume the worse and be prepared. My question to the oncologist was if not cancer then what? He stated that is a question for a neurologist since that is their area of expertise...SO, I was fortunate to ask a colleague if she knew of a good neurologist and she did...he is scheduled out over 6 months BUT he provided his nurse's number and she was so nice when we spoke and Bill has an appointment October 22 at 9:30am. This way we get yet another option of what it could be. The plan at this moment is to wait until his next MRI in November and a decision may be made then. IF it grows they will treat it like cancer and Bill will have a treatment called the Gamma Knife, which is radiation that is precisely targeted to the lesion. The one thing that made Bill feel good was that this was the smallest lesion he has ever been consulted on. My thoughts are we want to stay ahead of this.
Bill is not symptomatic, so it may not be anything. It may have been there for some time, we don't know.
We welcome all of your prayers.
