Amazon synod's critics distort Catholic tradition for their convenience

What is missing from all these criticisms is any awareness of the fact that the Catholic Church does not, in fact, view indigenous cultures with such horror, and core teachings of our faith posit that God is active in every culture, indeed, in every human heart.
Sure, “the Catholic Church does not, in fact, view indigenous cultures with such horror”, but it is entitled to view distortions of doctrine, whatever their origin, with disdain, even if, in our modern “woke” world they can be described, with bated breath, as “indigenous”.
And yes, “God is active in every culture”, but that doesn’t mean that every culture comes up with the right answers. Christ came on earth to bring us the truth, and issued the injunction to preach the Gospel to every nation. There was no enjoinder to take on board the elements of every culture and somehow come up with a reconciliation of them all. Unguided syncretism is a recipe for chaos.
Two “human hearts” that entertain contrary views cannot both be right.
