There is an interesting discussion on Catholica concerning life after death. In particular I noted the comments which were critical of Catholic Church teaching and with some amusement those comments which suggested the teachings are, (my choice of the word) "scary".
It was interesting to note those who did and did not contribute to the discussion.
The Catholic Church teaches the eternal separation from God for those who die in mortal sin where they suffer the punishment of hell, "eternal fire". The teaching is unequivocal.
Or is the Church just being obstinate in its refusal to change its teaching in the knowledge that times have changed and opinions have moved on. Conservative, reactionary...real political correctness as some have defined.
Of course if you don't believe in mortal sin, why worry about hell. I imagine that belief goes hand in hand with not believing in the devil.
And of course if you don't believe in the devil...well, HAPPY TIMES.

Lots of interesting questions there, Bertus. Maybe you should 'contribute'?

It is not death that a man should fear, but he should fear never beginning to live. ~ Marcus Aurelius
An academic discussion on the consequences that we may, or may not in face in an after life will not resolve the challenges that each of us faces every day we rise from our bed.
