I read of thse Tongan kids who survived being marooned together peaceably, not Lord of the Flies like, one saying: “We were very happy, but the first thing we did, we say a prayer, thank God for what he brought us to.”
Their days began and ended with song and prayer.
So rather than evidence of some survival-by-niceness instinct, more like, as Bernanos' country priest pointed out: There is no peace save in Christ Jesus.
