For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.
Troubles often freeze us into believing that our current dilemmas are all about our failure to make the right decisions somewhere along the road that we walked yesterday, or last month, or last year. Experience is a brutal teacher ensuring that we learn our lessons, sufficiently to want to make our today worth remembering, for having made the right decision.
“When one door closes, another opens; but we often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door that we do not see the one which has opened for us.” ~Alexander Graham Bell
Biblical wisdom teaches us not to spend time looking back on our past life, when there is a future worth living under the caring protection of Our Father.
During her escape from her home community Lot's wife looked back with regret, and bitterness on all that she assumed she had lost.
In reality The Father was saving her life, when he counselled her husband Lot to flee from the forthcoming destruction of Sodom, and Gomorrah.
God's Spirit will intervene when we believe all is lost, inviting us to let Him guide us out of our troubles into safety where we can begin again to live a life worth our trust in His counselling.
Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own.
But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead ~ Philippians 3:13
