~ C. S. Lewis
Free will is God's gift to each of us.
Our choice, our decisions reveal the person we are.
Our spoken, and written words do not manifest, or transmit the person masquerading behind our words.
Our actions speak clearly.
I have always thought the actions of men the best interpreters of their thoughts. ~ John Locke
Back in the late 1930s mass observation became a national past time in the United Kingdom, enticing hundreds of thousands of people to spend time noting those passing stimuli that attracted their special attention. A world war was rapidly approaching with an awareness among many people that their lives would change for the worst.
One of the many surprising outcomes of the development of mass observation revealed rising happiness, even joy among those who bothered to take an interest in the lives of their neighbours, work colleagues, even casual strangers they met over a drink at their local pub, or cafe. The curious were being rewarded with new acquaintances, and friends sufficient for them to realise that reaching out to people benefited their own well being, as well as those whom they befriended.
C.S. Lewis reminds us that we take responsibility for creating whatever joy arrives in our life, when we make the choice to take an active interest in the well being of other human beings.
The Word of God is a living presence in our life inviting us to do all that He asks of us, providing us with the opportunity to assist another human person, who by perceived chance enters our orbit. Chance be a fine thing, were it not by divine design leading us to where Our Father guides us to enact His plan for our well being, when becoming His outreach into the lives of those He introduces to us.
Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. 23 Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror 24 and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. 25 But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do. ~ James 1
