I quote:
Moses said to the people:
"If only you would heed the voice of the LORD, your God,
and keep his commandments and statutes
that are written in this book of the law,
when you return to the LORD, your God,
with all your heart and all your soul.

Jesus informs us "The Kingdom of God is Within You" is the key phrase in Luke 17:21 inspiring the virtue of compassionate assistance for our neighbour. Jesus says, "for, behold, the kingdom of God (or Heaven, as is sometimes translated) is within you" in response to the Pharisees asking when the Kingdom of God will come.
Today's readings invite us to listen to our heart, providing us with the story of The Good Samaritan going out of his way to aid an injured man, whom he found lying on a road in great distress. The Samaritan took full responsibility for the victim's recovery, even paying an inn keeper for the injured man's upkeep.
Two lessons in today's readings engage us to listen to our innermost counselling, and act on that guidance even when it means taking responsibility for the safe recovery of a complete stranger by perceived chance waiting for our practical assistance.
I am often asked how will we know when to intervene assisting another person per Our Father's request. An over powering feeling, supplemented by thoughts imploring us to do all that we are asked, leads us to become the outreach of the Divine Mystery into the lives of those He presents to us, thereby witnessing to our faith in God by our actions...not just words.
Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. ~ James 2:17
