But when we are in true spiritual darkness, we do not even know that we have fallen.”― Thomas Merton, Thoughts in Solitude
I am occasionally asked why I reference time as a measure of our journey through life, when also categorically stating that time is not of the essence, when we are implementing The Father's plan revealing our life's purpose.
Holy Scripture teaches us that there is a time, and a season for everything enabling us to appreciate that there will be periods when we question why we are stuck in a rut. We ask why me? What did I do to deserve this treatment?
Almost certainly The Father is not in Time.
His life does not consist of moments following one another...
Thus we may consider that Our Father's plan for our life will include moments, days, months, even years when He asks us to rest at His wayside inn..in antiicipation of things to come. During this waiting time our trust in The Father's love for us is tested to near breaking point.
"For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways," says the LORD.
"For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts" (Isaiah 55:8)
Understanding the passage of time may encourage us to read the words of philosophers, or scientists speculating on theories calculated to impress those of us impatient with waiting for better days. Our reality will not change knowing well that our understandings are the result of our experience living one day at a time.
Time is usually viewed as a constant unfolding of the future, already packaged (so to speak) within a continuum.
It is said by those with seer gifts that our actions can, and do change the sequence of events unfolding.
I offer a link to an early Twilight Zone episode illustrating my point that time can present its witnesses with a conumdrum...the mystery best lived to understand at its appropriate time. This TWZ episode is ficitional, having no basis in reality. The lead actor Kenneth Haigh was a favourite of mine during my boyhood years, appearing in many television programmes fascinating me. In this TWZ episode Kenneth Haigh illustrates his genius acting skills:
