Today's readings are lengthy, therefore I will just offer a few very personal thoughts.
Jesus of Nazareth prepares Himself for the week ahead, after His rousing reception by crowds welcoming Him to Jerusalem.
Jesus understood what lay ahead.
Approaching His death with a smile on His face was Jesus' way of teaching each of us, that we must also walk the same path...
hopefully, without the torture and pain that Jesus had to endure.
After interrogating Jesus, Pontius Pilate determines that Jesus is innocent of the allegations levelled against Him by The Sanhedrin.
Religious fantacism was rife throughout Rome's Near Eastern provinces, sufficient to stir violent rebellion as well as distablise Rome's hold on power. The Roman prefect chose political expediency, over clemency. The rest of this story informs us that innocent people are executed out of fear that speaking the truth will topple the power structure ruling Israel including The Sanhedrin, King Herod, and even Rome's control of the region.
Rome's prefect, and The Sanhedrin leaders are very agitated. They appeal to the law. According to Roman law Jesus is innocent, as Pilate has stated three times. The Sanhedrin representatives assert that according to Jewish law Jesus must die, because he claimed to be the Son of God. This was the charge that was brought against Jesus at the hearing before The Sanhedrin.
